Former BRG Member:
Jonathan Holland (Undergraduate Research Assistant) [2016] Jonathan Holland was born and raised in Oregon, where he attended Powers High School in Powers, Oregon. He then attended Southwestern Oregon Community College (SOCC) in Coos Bay, Oregon, where he completed an Associates of Applied Science in Nursing. Jon’s first interactions with Chemistry came from a high school chemistry course, followed a couple of years later by a successful, accelerated, summer General Chemistry series at Oregon State University taught by Drs. Knutson and Nafshun, where he found a talent and interest in Organic Chemistry. After General Chemistry, Jon studied basic Organic Chemistry under the instruction of Drs. Blakemore and Loesgen, with the latter encouraging him to conduct undergraduate research. Jon joined the BRG and investigated the synthesis of a novel N,P-ligand based on 8-naphth-1-yl-quinoline (8-azaBINOL). Aside from chemistry and nursing, Jon enjoys playing the piano, violin, and drums, and can be found along the coast of Oregon, camping, hiking, kayaking, and exploring.
